Lyric derives from the Greek word λυρικός lyrikos, meaning "singing to the lyre"
I've been singing to the lyre since about the age of 9. Whenever I write songs, they seem to come to me fairly quickly. Lyrics next to the music are the most important part of songwriting. Lyrics pry and ignite emotions in most human beings. Lyrics can tell a story, create a feeling or an imaginary place for your mind to dwell temporarily. This is why music is so universal. Although we may not speak the same language, we don't need an interpreter to tell us how certain songs make us feel.
When I write a song, I usually have the melody and the main body of the song in my head and I usually come up with this really quickly. I see or hear something and then get a sudden-spurt and an idea pops into my head.
Next I go ahead and record my guitar part. This frees me up to playback the guitar part over and over while I concentrate on moving and shaping the lyrics to create the perfect melody. I find the nuances and explore many different ways of phrasing a line or saying a word until it feels right. When if feels right, I record the vocals.
This is how the process starts for me...If you would like to read some of my lyrics, just view the drop down menu above under the tab LYRICS and choose by song.
I will be adding new lyrics as I get the time to type them, so stay tuned.
